British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a platform for proponents of the building industry to discuss issues and exchange information on building envelope issues. BCBEC was registered under the Societies' Act in 1990.
BCBEC is composed of all segments of the industry including members of governments, consultants in the building envelope field, product manufacturer's, manufacturing associations, contractors, and educators.
BCBEC is comprised of approximately 350 members. The predominant mode of information sharing is by luncheon seminars held once per month. At the seminars, speakers deliver a visual presentation relating to their particular expertise.
Once a year BCBEC holds a full-day seminar, usually dealing with a wide range of topics. BCBEC is an organization dedicated to information sharing; not marketing.

Builder Insight #9: Fenestration Energy Performance: A Roadmap for Understanding Requirements for Residential Buildings in British Columbia is now available. The Homeowner Protection Office, a branch of BC Housing, has released a new technical bulletin that looks at the energy performance requirements for windows, glazed doors and skylights used in residential buildings, and provides a roadmap for compliance. Energy performance requirements for fenestration have become more stringent in recent years. This bulletin will help clarify the building code and BC Energy Efficiency Act requirements and the supporting standards.
BCBEC is proud to support BCIT's 2011 Building Science Project competition. First place in the competition went to "Thermal Breaks Reduce Heat Loss Through Externally Insulated Walls" (Michael L'Arrivee, Joshua Wiebe, Benjamin Plasche). Second place to "Thermal Bridging in Concrete Floor Slabs" (Nataliya Matiushkova). Third place to "The Energy Efficiency of Single Family Homes" (Trevor Vilac, Brandon Carreira, Logan Brown).
BCBEC supports educational programs which provide learning opportunities for students in the field of building science.
BCBEC would like your feedback on past luncheons, future presentations, or any views that would be beneficial to the organization. All submittals will be reviewed.
